Art Projects for Kids: Abstract Feather Collage

September 9, 2015 By: Liz

Today’s abstract art project for kids is a feather collage. Pulling out the black card to work on is truly striking, particularly if you’re using bright colours. I was tempted to grab the glitter again but I don’t suppose it needs to be added to every art project! I named this piece A Tale of Two Feathers. Can your kids come up with a title for their artwork?

Use any variety of crafty bits and pieces to create a beautiful collage!

With a collage it’s all about the materials so it’s good if kids have options to choose between. In the collage above I’ve only used feathers and pom poms so you don’t necessarily need a great variety of materials. But hopefully kids can be offered enough variety so that their finished collages can demonstrate their individuality.

What you need

  • Black or white card of any size
  • Feathers and pom poms and/or other collage materials (tissue paper, wool, sequins, ribbon, cotton balls, stickers, fabric…)
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Creating your feather collage

The 30 second video below will show you how!

A take home reminder!

Make a bright and happy feather collage with your child! Check out the 30 second video, too!

What are your favourite collaging materials? Let us know in the comments!

I hope you enjoy your collaging and wish you happy teaching and learning!
