Getting prepared

Download this printable at the bottom of this post. Print off the cards you wish to use in either colour or black and white. Cut them to separate and laminate if you wish. Grab your magnetic letters (or other letters, or even a dry erase marker for writing).

Have fun practicing beginning sounds and CVC words with these free magnetic letters cards!

Sounds and words

These cards contain the following words:

  • cat, apple, pumpkin (cap)
  • ball, anchor, toe (bat)
  • lion, elephant, grapes (leg)
  • hat, egg, nine (hen)
  • rabbit, ink, box (rib)
  • dragon, igloo, glasses (dig)
  • hammer, octopus, tie (hot)
  • mouse, orange, popcorn (mop)
  • rocket, umbrella, bat (rub)
  • back, up, dress (bud)

Have fun learning beginning sounds and CVC words with these free magnetic letters cards!

Using the cards

To use these cards kids look at eat picture, say the words, decide what the beginning sounds are and place the correct letter above each picture (or write the letter). When the three letters are in place sound them out to discover a CVC word.
