9 Easy and Crafty Math Activities

July 26, 2014 By: Liz

For this Brownbag Back-to-School Blog Hop I’m focusing on crafty math activities for Kinders. Check out the links below for more first day ideas from my blogging buddies! 9 Crafty Math Activities for Kinders Are you going back to school soon? Are your walls and ceilings looking bare waiting for student work? Engaging your kids in a crafty math activity can be a smart choice because:

  • your kids will know math is going to be fun this year!
  • you can informally assess students in many ways: basic number knowledge, fine motor skills, listening to and following instructions, levels of persistence and engagement etc…
  • you’ll end up with purposeful (and lovely) decorations for your classroom.

Click on the links below to be taken to the blog post for each activity. 1. Play Dough and Tin Foil Number Mobiles from Liz’s Early Learning Spot. In general, MATH itself is really not going to be fun for kids, but giving it a little artistic touch will really change things up. Another great thing about it is that when our kids find these math activities fun, they will be looking forward to it – and more sessions means more lessons to be learned .

Having them help making these props for math activities would also be great. 🙂

We all have different ways of relating to math concepts. I agree that using art is a great way to engage kids. We’re so lucky now to have so many blogs and Pinterest boards for inspiration. Thanks for your comment!
