Matching Colors and Numbers 1-6

May 17, 2018 By: Liz

If you want to practice matching colors as well as numbers 1-6 this activity has you covered. You’ll also find links to 14 more fun color activities if you scroll down this post (from some of my favourite early childhood bloggers)!

Matching colors

The 6 colors used in this activity are green, blue, yellow, orange, red and pink.

Roman numerals

It’s a little unusual to include roman numerals in a counting activity for younger children. However, it’s never too early to learn that not everyone writes numbers in the same way… and that’s OK!

The trickiest concept is that v = 5 and is a number rather than a letter. Then, it’s an excellent exercise to realise that putting a 1 before 5 makes the number 4 (iv) and a 1 after 5 makes the number 6 (vi).

Get ready to go

  • Print off the activity near the bottom of this post.
  • Print off the dice and cards onto card, cut the cards to separate and assemble the cube as instructed.
  • You’ll end up with lots of little cards so you may want to store them in separate ziploc bags by either color or type of number.

How to play

  • Simply roll the dice to randomly choose the color and number focus, then find those 4 specific cards.
  • You can also use the cards without the dice, and practice lining up the numbers 1-6 in their different formats.
  • Or put more focus on the colors and simply put the matching colors together regardless of the numbers.
