Alphabet Punch Cards with Beginning Sounds

September 9, 2016 By: Liz

Get those fine motor skills going with these alphabet punch cards! A-H are free to download at the bottom of this post.

Practice letter recognition and beginning sounds while working on fine motor skills with these alphabet punch cards! (A-H free)

How to prepare

Download the Alphabet Punch Cards printable below. Print off the pages you need onto paper or card. Cut them to separate. Don’t forget to grab a hole punch that’s not too difficult to use!

If you want to re-use them over and over, laminate them and use dry erase markers and pegs.

How to use these alphabet punch cards

  • Look at the target letter and search for the same letters around the border. Punch a hole in all the target letters (or clip pegs to them).
  • Colour the outlined letter in the center, or use it to practice writing the letter.
  • Look at the pictures. Colour or circle the pictures that start with the target sound. Each card has 4 pictures that will fit that description.
  • If you’re unsure what word is meant by a picture, check the list provided in the printable.

Punching holes is a fun way to reinforce letter recognition. These free cards give practice with beginning sounds, too!

Extension

If you’re working on a particular letter, when you’ve finished this activity grab a newspaper or magazine, give the kids highlighters and see how many of their target letter they can find in one section of the paper in front of them.

Or turn the card over and practice writing the target letter a number of times on the back.

Download here!

Click on the following highlighted link and your Alphabet Punch Cards will be sent directly to your downloads folder or other device equivalent.
