Little Books with CVC and Sight Word Sentences

July 1, 2017 By: Liz

Reading predictable sentences gives early readers confidence and helps with reading fluency. These cutey ‘books’ are perfect for little hands and the CVC and sight word sentences mean they’re practicing essential words.

These CVC and sight word sentences are sweet little (free) books for improving fluency.

CVC and sight word sentences

The phrases used in these free little books are:

  • Look at her… / look at his…
  • Where is my… ?
  • Play with this…

Each little book includes 9 sentences plus a title ‘page’ where kids can write their names. If 9 sentences seems overwhelming, simply print off the first page of the book and you’ll have a title page plus 4 predictable sentences.

These free predictable sentences make great little books for reading and tracing practice!

Getting ready to go

Download these little books. You’ll find the link towards the bottom of this post. Then…

  1. Print off the required pages (each book uses 2 pieces of paper).
  2. Students write their names on the top, then attempt to read each sentence on the page.
  3. Students trace the words and colour the pictures.
  4. Students cut the strips and put them together into book form. Either staple them together or punch a hole and add a ring.
  5. Re-read the books, reading by themselves and to others, while running their finger under the text to help them focus on the words rather than falling back on rote memory.
  6. These little books can be used at any time for reading or as writing prompts.

These dotted predictable sentences make great little books for practicing reading and writing. And they're free!
