Fun learning

This Halloween action rhyme is great for getting kids up and moving. As they work through the rhyme they can brainstorm different moves to animate the poem.

Will they choose to create a dance where everyone does the same choreography? Or will they want each person to develop their own zombie personality and character?

Counting on

This kind of counting helps kids not just develop fluency, but because each line of numbers starts where the other line left off, it reinforces the concept of counting on. That is, they don’t have to start at 1… they can start at any number and count on from there.

Introduce a fun Halloween action rhyme to your kids with these free posters!

Rhyming words

Explore whether there are rhyming words (or not?) with this Halloween action rhyme:

  • 4 and floor
  • 8 and shake
  • 12 and yourself
  • 16 and bright green

Can they think of other words that would rhyme more effectively? Or make the poem funnier?

Tracing

Kids can have their own 6 page version of the rhyme to to read and colour, and there’s also a dotted font version which is great for tracing.

Literacy

There are plenty of long and short vowels, nouns and verbs etc that can be pointed out depending on what your level your kids are. Plus, a zombie-themed writing page has been included in the download to help expand the activity.

Enjoy writing with this free Halloween-themed writing paper!

Preparation

Print off the pages you want to use. Enlarge the posters so the text is easier for kids to read when they’re nearby. Print off a student book for each child (either the dotted or common font). Cut pages in half, assemble and staple.
